Lead Generation - Should I pay for it?

Before you answer the question on whether you should pay for lead generation or not, let's consider the following:

1. Are you actively seeking new leads?
2. Do you have time for more leads?
3. Does the company you work for provide leads?
4. Does your Multiple Listing Service provide a way to generate leads and create a mailing list?
5. Have you tried obtaining a lead from the people who know you, love you and might refer you?
6. Do you sit floor in your office?
7. Have you ever held an open house for your listing or another agents listing in your office?
8. Are you using Social Media to generate potential lead?

If you said, "no" to most of these questions than before you pay for a lead consider trying one of the above.  If you aren't seeking new leads you may not need them.  If you are too busy for any new clients than you either need an assistant or you don't have time for any new leads.  Most company's have lead programs that you can be a part of.  The real estate company I work for has many ways to receive a lead, from text messaging systems, a personal website, e-newsletters, relocation, and so much more.

What about your Multiple Listing Service?  MRED, the company that manages our MLS, uses the Realist Tax System that allows agents to create mailing lists in minutes.  The best part is that it's already included in our MLS fees.  I can search for off market properties, potential move up buyers, pre-foreclosures and so much more.  If you are a member of MRED take advantage of the free classes and learn this system.

Referrals, Floor, Open Houses, and Social Media are other great ways to generate a lead.  

So, before you pay for a LEAD take advantage of your company's software programs, your MLS products and services, open houses, sit floor and use social media to generate a lead.

The only other reason to pay for leads could be that you aren't tech savvy and need some assistance.  Have fun generating new leads.  Track your results so you know how to perfect your real estate business each year.  You will find you are more successful in one or two areas of lead generation.
